This horn is a prime golden era Selmer serial #168,xxx with its factory neck!
This horn is 1 of 859 low A Selmer Mark VI altos ever produced! These horns are incredibly scarce hard to find and this is a phenomenal example.
If there was ever a low A alto, this is the EXACT one you want! Both players and collectors want this exact variant of low A. This is the low A Mark VI with American engraving and NO high F# key.

This horn is a great sax that has JUST come out of the repair shop!
This horn was completely broken down separated into pieces, cleaned, degreased, freshly oiled, fresh adjustment material as needed, pads cleaned floated adjusted, new neck cork, neck to body fitting, tightening/fitting/swedging of key work, a full next level setup on the horn, etc!
The horn is sitting on older pads. The pads were cleaned, floated, adjusted, and the horn is a great playing sax! Ultimately it will be up to you if you ever go for a fresh pad job on the horn. The horn plays amazing and the current pads and just aren't bad enough for us to change them. If you ever do decide to change the pads it will be a minimally invasive job. Being we just did so so much work to the horn, we pretty much did the "overhaul" part, its just a matter of a tech sticking in fresh pads if you ever choose so.
Check out picture #22 the horn was just fully cleaned to the bone in our ultra sonic cleaner! This sax is a clean fresh tasting, fresh smelling horn! This is not a cheap process to get done.
This sax is currently playing top to bottom fully setup with no clicks, clanks, metal on metal, extra noise, extra motion, the horns key work is leak free
Saxophone repair work is not cheap these days. It can take a long time to get repair work done and not everyone can be trusted with a horn like this.
Most repair techs have never seen or worked on a low A alto sax. This horn has had specialty setup to ensure the low A is mechanically leveraged with preferential setup to insure low A is as easy as can be to play, finger, press down!
This horn had an serious amount of repair work to bring it back to life and is ready to play today! The fact that this horn has just had the full repair service treatment for this sale is a massive value add.
This horn is being sold as used and has its fair share of various scratches, knicks, dings, fleabites, patina, metal wear, lacquer wear, repair marks and other anomalies associated with an old used horn sax.
Please check out picture #24. Extremely lightly marked into the bow area is some kind of secondary serial number after the fact. It will be up to you if you have your tech simply buff this off, polish this off. When your holding the horn in the hands you can barely see it. You really have to be close to it. Its so ever subtly marked into the sax, so you can really only notice it when you're staring studying looking just for it.
Please check out picture #21. This horn has a very nice neck with it! Mark VIs necks typically are trashed and thrashed. This neck is overall pretty great, however in picture #21 we are showing and pointing out there is a patina mark/repair mark. Its not very bad, but its there so we want to mention. The great news is this is the worst thing on the sax to complain about!
The horn includes its factory Selmer case! These are specific low A Selmer cases made from the start to fit these horns. These cases are worth a pretty penny by them selves!
Included is Selmer branded end cap!
Overall this is a highly collectible great Mark VI low A thats ready to play out of the box! While not a small amount of money you would be hard pressed to find anything remotely similar sitting available for sale ready to buy.
With only 859 of these ever made this horn is a needle in a hay stack find! Out of those 859 the vast majority of them were either trashed and thrashed condition, relacquered, lost to time, possibly destroyed in building demolition or, fires, floods, natural disasters, or missing parts or pieces, pickups on the neck, patches on the neck, all sorts of weird problems!
Out of that pool there are only so many remaining in nice condition. Out of that pool theres only so many of them with American engraving with out the F# key.
Most of these horns are just locked away in collections only to ever see daylight when that player passes and then ultimately the horn get locked up into a new players life time collection.
