Conn Connfirmation CAS 811 Limited Edition 150th Anniversary Alto Saxophone
For sale is the brand new Conn Connfirmation CAS 811 Limited Edition 150th anniversary alto saxophone!
In late 2025 C.G. Conn instruments announced for there 150th Anniversary they would rebirth the beloved legendary American saxophone sound by releasing a complete brand new saxophone model.
Introducing the Conn Connfirmation CAS 811 alto saxophone in aged brass finish!
This marks a massive long awaited move on Conn coming back into the professional saxophone retail space giving the world a product where legacy meets innovation.
This horn is a revolutionary new saxophone model that was intentionally and thoughtfully designed from the bottom up to top to be a next level precision operating instrument.
This saxophone pushes the boundaries of exactly what we want from a dream high performance precision modern saxophone, while still pulling inspiration and paying homage to Conn's legendary history and American saxophone sound.
As far as sax world news goes this is unbelievable ground shattering exciting news not to be taken lightly!
These days and for a very long time its extremely rare for any kind of new saxophone model to be released to the retail market.
Occasionally there will be a limited release of a pre existing model where they change the finish, engraving or aesthetic. Sometimes a company will reissue a new revision title of the same model aka a II or III with minor improvements. Most times we see a new model its typically a repackage of the same Asian made saxophones we have already seen. Perhaps they have there own custom branding, logos, custom configuration but are still generally all the same near identical horns.
In saxophone world rarely ever do we experience an actual brand new high end professional saxophone design/model entering the retail world... Let alone one of the most iconic saxophone brands that was lost to time giving us a fresh modern take on one of the best vintage horns.
Bringing a new professional saxophone to the retail market is no small feet. Over the years many companies have attempted this and fallen flat on there face failing for a myriad of reasons. It becomes especially hard the moment you introduce any level American manufacturing in the mix. Just the fact that this saxophone has made it this far and is a real thing out in the wild instantly makes this a smash hit success!
Conn Selmer is the owning parent company of C.G. Conn and has taken it upon them selves to step to the plate to offer us saxophone lovers a largely USA built and American produced Conn!
The majority of this saxophone is produced and built in the USA!
The saxophone does have a blend of some foreign parts however the majority of the saxophone is actually produced, assembled and finished in the United States of America.
Conn Selmer owns the highly successful Bach Brass brand. To this day Bach is the most legendary brass brand fully producing and manufacturing there Stradivarius trumpets/brass in Elkhart Indiana by hand. So it only made sense that Conn Selmer could utilize there Bach in house manufacturing expertise to help build this saxophone in the USA in a way that has not happened in a very long time.
Conn Selmer them selves are being very careful about there statements. Near the serial number the saxophone is stamped "Assembled in USA from foreign and domestic parts". That being said the core of this saxophone is made from American made Bach brass bell, bow, neck and body tube with true rolled tone holes! Past that there are many other bits and pieces also manufactured here in the USA but Conn Selmer is not being specific on which those items are and whats the exact blend of foreign/domestic parts.
For the manufacture, saxophonists, the community it would be fantastic if they were able to advertise that this horn was a 100% made in USA product, however in this modern day and age that's just not fully realistic if we actually want new saxophones coming to fruition.
While the "made in the USA" claim is very specific, this is exactly where the "built in the USA" statement comes in.
Built in the USA products may possibly have some foreign parts however the majority is a USA made product but are still accepted to be called "built in the USA" products. That is exactly the case of what were dealing with here.
This saxophone is a built in the USA professional level Conn saxophone and that's just an incredible thing!
We know some sax lovers will quickly scrutinize any sax that utilizes foreign parts, however its just not fair to classify this horn as resembling a foreign horn or anything remotely close.
Coming in to this we were highly skeptical about this saxophone yet extremely excited. So much to be excited about yet so many ways it could go wrong.
Right off the bat the performance on this thing is great. The horn blows the house down!
One singular note played on the horn is all it takes and you instantly simply think to your self "huh wow thats actually amazing!"
This saxophone has incredible resonance!
There will be subjective opinions that will vary person to person about the horn overall, however one thing that cannot be argued about this horn is how truly resonant the sax is.
The entire horn resonates and vibrates at a level above and beyond how most horns will ever come close to. When you play this saxophone its a highly gratifying pleasant playing experience.
The saxophone speaks extremely well. The horn is loud and proud with an authoritative sound and feel, yet also highly nuanced and dynamic.
The actual tone on this saxophone is highly refined. The sound leans towards a fatter, wider, lush heavy bass sound yet has a strong squelchy forward treble brightness that adds the perfect sizzle on top.
Some saxophone brands/models have extremely boring one note tones. Some pro models on the market just have plain sounds. Especially horns that are large bore, or trying to replicate the American sound they tend to be nothing but ultra bass heavy and lose all of there focus.
Part of what makes this horns tone so special is you get that massive wide "American sound sax sound" but with the added brilliance, sizzle, brightness, focus up top that is never typically there.
The core tone the Connfirmation is extremely beautiful tone. Some saxophones sound extremely raw or unfinished in tone. The Connfirmation has the perfect blend of bass, mids and high partials that makes it sound like a studio finished mixed and mastered audio product.
When you play this horn you instantly know it an American horn. The tone and feel resembles something somewhat towards the direction of vintage Conn 6Ms or King Super 20 Silver Sonics yet with a more modern feel.
When this horn is compared next to a Selmer Supreme theres no doubt this horn is a few notches louder then that horn. Supremes are already very potent so this horn is an extremely powerful piece.
Even though this sax is very loud its not a wanky out of control runaway train.
Theres an interesting dynamic where some modern saxophones made to be loud or powerful end up just being sorta stuck playing at max volume, max in your faceness, with 1 volume always at maximum output with no dynamic range.
The Connfirmation offers that modern loud authoritative feel, yet its totally dynamic. Its extremely easy to play soft, loud, maneuver in and out of whatever stylistic changes you can throw at it. The horn plays fitting like a glove and its a very nice feeling.
This saxophone was not just thrown together. This saxophone has been in R&D for a very long time and that shows. There are many interesting quirks and features going on with this horn that aren't what you typically find in the current top level professional horn offering.
This saxophone features a slightly larger bore design with a complex tapered neck tenon. Its this slightly larger bore that helps to give it such a fat sound yet fully retains focus unlike full large bore horns.
Like the horns iconic predecessors this saxophone features TRUE rolled tone holes.
True rolled tone holes are when the tone hole/rolled rim are one continuous piece of brass formed directly from the body tube itself. There is no solder or separate ring its one solid piece of metal all made from the singular body tube here in the USA.
Most other brands offering rolled tone holes are using "fake" rolled tone holes. To try and replicate the vintage Conn aesthetic other brands will use pseudo rolled/soldered/drawn rolled tone holes. This is when the rolled tone hole lip is made separate then simply just welded onto the body. These have low production value and can leak air or be problematic.
The fact that Conn has given us true rolled tone holes is very nice feature!
This saxophone features a brand new state of the art generative butterfly wing bell to body brace. There is no other bell to body brace out there like this. This brace was engineered using generative design technology which allows them to digitally optimize the design to achieve the perfect balance of resonance and strength while offering minimal mass. The resulting brace is remarkably strong with structural rigidity while still allowing the bell to vibrate free.
The bow is fully soldered on both sides to bell/body tube.
The horn has American post to body construction.
The horn features Pisoni Pro black pads with flat Conn metal resonators!
The horn comes stock with a heavy mass screw and a C.G. Conn metal branded thumb rest.
Conn is touting that these horns have all been treated with the brand new "ConnSonic" process.
Conn is being tight lipped of exactly what entails in this process. Its a suite of proprietary space age technologies that homogenizes all parts into a single whole working to create 1 solid resonating unit. Apparently this is some kind of very unique process not typically seen in saxophone manufacturing. Perhaps as time goes on we will find more about this.
This saxophone is what they are calling the "aged brass" variant. While the look of the saxophone may some what change over time, this is not a typical unlacquered or de lacquered saxophone. The saxophone has no lacquer however it goes through a heat applied treatment process that penetrates and "bakes" the finish to be more stable.
This saxophone comes with an amazing case. The case is really a great accompanying tool. Typically speaking factory matching cases can leave somethings to be desired. Many players end up upgrade there case.
This case is a fantastic custom flight style contoured case. While the case may look like it has some "give" or is soft, that is not the case. The case is incredibly strong and sturdy to the touch. You cant just push in the case with your hands.
The case has one of the thickest, nicest feeling leather handles you have felt on a case. The case come stock with very nice back pack straps fastened with carabiner's. You can put a normal strap as well.
The case has a nice size pocket on the outside. The outside pocket is actually removable! Inside the pocket are 4 small finished screws. These unscrew and the entire pocket releases offering a smooth super small classic flight case.
The saxophone it self feels extremely strudy and strong to the touch.
Some of the most expensive professional saxophones on the market when you squeeze the bell, rods, neck, other areas can feel soft to the touch like you can just bend it, break it. That is not the case with this horn. This horn feels extremely sturdy, hefty, strong well built piece. Even the vintage style key guards look flimsy but are surprisingly very strong.
Just like how the rest of the horn has uniquely designed elements, the clothing guard is no exception. The clothing guard has a very cool design that seems to be loosely inspired by the front grill of American made cars like Fords from the earlier 1920s 1930s around the same time as the saxophone is loosely inspired by. The clothing guard also has the 150th anniversary logo on it.
The horn includes a grenadilla wood end plug with the 150th Anny logo on it.
Included is a Conn branded microfiber cloth, inside swab, cork grease, Brilhart #7 mouthpiece, ligature and cap.
Overall this saxophone is a fantastic package. The overall offering on this horn is extremely solid. It would be one thing if this was just a pretty saxophone with a cool matching package... But we actually have a fantastic top level professional saxophone that many people are going to think is the best playing modern produced saxophone of all time.
The Connfirmation isnt just a reissue or nostalgic piece, nor is it a cheap modern horn in disguise. This sax is a serious modern professional saxophone that bridges the gap between the deep roots of American saxophone tradition and what the modern saxophonist wants/needs out of a next generation saxophone.
This saxophone is a highly limited scarce offering. This saxophone has more blood, sweat, tears, time and money invested into it then the saxophone market can actually bare. Its probably fair to be assumed that Conn is even losing a good deal of money to produce each of these units.
The total run size of these horns are capped at 150x for the 150th anniversary but that is not how many units have been produced for this drop. I guess they are thinking of it like an artist proof where an artist will put a total run size on the canvas, but then only actually produces some number under that.
There will never be any more then 150x of these made. With this level of time and investment into each saxophone it must be hard to keep up any sort of production on this. Conn has stated at this point they have no more plans to build any more of these.
Its possible in the future this saxophone comes back in a form thats more approachable for Conn to scale and actually be able to produce and sell. But it doesn't appear we will get more of these exact horns.
For now dont take this editorials review, go out there and go find one of these to play while they are still floating around!
We are extremely lucky to have been allocated a few of these. We know these horns are going to sell out extremely quick vanished off the face of the earth. It is our plan to hold onto 1x of these so we can continue offering appointment play test sessions for anyone in the Los Angeles sax community that wants to experience the horn.
This horn is on sale at our Los Angeles, California saxophone showroom store and can sell at any point so if you have been looking for a Conn please buy and pay confidently we will ship ASAP upon payment!
