For sale is a stunning Selmer Mark VI 5 digit alto saxophone!
This horn is a prime golden era Selmer serial #55xxx with its matching #55xxx neck!
This sax is featuring the incredibly rare Double S Neck!
This saxophone is is an extremely coveted 1954 first year Mark VI!
This saxophone is a highly special piece. The horn isnt just a first year Mark VI but its actually one of the earliest Mark VI alto saxophones off the Selmer factory line! According to the Selmer serial number chart the very first Mark VI alto was #55,390. This saxophone is #55,8xx. Thats approximately 400 horns apart, however during this serial spread they were making sopranos, altos, tenors, baritones, maybe some sopraninos or basses. SO all that amounts to this horn somewhere around the 100th Mark VI alto ever to be produced, possibly even lower.
This horn will need a full overhaul and pad job to be a functional saxophone and is not playing at all right now.
This saxophone is sitting on every single one of its 1954 factory pads and factory metal resonators right now. Not every Mark VI had all of the smallest metal resonators. This horn has metal resonators for every single key cup, including all 3 of the smallest palm keys!
With the full full set of metal resonators fully intact this horn would make an incredible piece to give the full overhaul pad job treatment to utilizing the old metal resonators on the new fresh pads!
This horn has an extremely dark patina finish on the horn. These horns age in many different ways. Many players and collectors seems to specifically look for this dark chocolate looking horns. Specifically these horns are extremely hard to photo around the engraving/logos being they are so dark!
Although quite gorgeous this horn still has its fair share of various scratches, knicks, dings, fleabites, metal wear, engraving wear, lacquer wear, repair marks, patina, various patches of red/green through out the horn and other anomalies associated with such an old vintage instrument.
Along the back side of the bell is a long patina mark thats currently sorta yellow red in patina. This is one of the many areas of red color patina that will need to be cleaned off during the overhaul.
This neck has strong use marks and pull down going on. The neck is a touch out of round and could use work. While this neck is not perfect, the fact that it exists at all as a Double S neck with matching serial number is just amazing on its own. A piece like this the neck would be worth sending out to one of the neck repair wiz's that really excel in that area.
Please check out pcture #24. There is a massive ding dent buckle flaw on the inner bell. No matter what there is always going to be a mark or flaw there however a good tech will have no problem rolling this area out with dent tools to make it look nice even and smooth. For now this massive flaw is part of the horn!
This horn comes with a Selmer case with the outside Selmer logo fully entact! This case is worth a pretty penny by itself.
This horn includes a Selmer C** short shank Soloist mouthpiece! The mouthpiece is extremely dirty with built up residue and such, but once cleaned up its a pretty nice piece worth a pretty penny!
Overall the horn is just an absolutely stunning piece. Its extremely rare for these Double S neck first year 1954 Mark VIs to come to market at all.
