This horn is a prime golden era Conn serial #140xxx with rolled tone holes and its factory neck!
This saxophone is the extremely rare and desirable Virtuoso Deluxe model featuring pearl key inlays, extravagant engraving and gold plated finish!
This horn features incredible bright popping gold plate finish in great condition! These horns are the Conn "Finish 000 Burnished Gold". These horns are heavily hand burnished gold plating all over the horn.
This saxophone features intricate deluxe engraving all over the horn. The saxophone has a fully engraved bell, bow, circular engraving around the serial number and engraving up the body.
This horns portrait engraving is an amazing piece of art. The portrait is near perfection, one of the cleanest executed portraits you will come across. Engraving actual images and faces like this is extremely difficult. Some of these faces on the portraits can get a bit wonky. They absolutely nailed this face portrait. Its telling how much the engraver cared about his work, or this particular saxophone. Overall this is a very special saxophone.

Typically getting work done like this is a long affair. Generally you have to wait in line for a tech to schedule you in for the future, once they get the horn its a lengthy wait for them to start/finish the horn on there time table.
This horn has all the work done and is fully ready to go which is a huge convenience and value!
This saxophone is playing top to bottom with no clicks, clanks, metal on metal, extra noise with all of the keys and pads clamping down hard with no leaks.
All that being said this horn is being sold as used and has its fair share of scratches, knicks, dings, fleabites, patina, tarnish, metal wear, plating lost, and other anomalies associated with such an old antique.
Please check out picture #22, the G# key and palm D key have no pearl on them and appear to be from a different Conn C Melody sax.
Included is the horns factory purple lined Conn case. The Conn logo is still intact on the outside and mostly still on the inside!
This horn is an L stamped low pitch horn.
Included is a C melody mouthpiece with a D on the table. These mouthpieces are worth a pretty penny but it is highly recommended to use a modern produced C Melody mouthpiece or a tenor sax mouthpiece.
The included vintage mouthpiece has a very small tip opening and has a very small voice. The moment you put on a modern designed produced C Melody mouthpiece or a tenor sax mouthpiece the entire sax opens up and has a loud, wide, full body, creamy lush sound that plays/feels/sounds like a dream!
Included is the horns metal end plug!
These C Melody Virtuoso Deluxe saxophones are incredibly rare to find. Generally C Melody horns were made to be an affordable option, for students, home use, the accessible every day mans saxophone. Most people who were custom ordering Virtuoso Deluxe weren't interested in ordering the most expensive special custom finish on the most accessible cheapest every day sax, so there were very few of these ever actually produced. Any Conn Virtuoso Deluxe is extremely rare, but they are typically seen in Eb altos and hardly ever seen in key of C saxophones!
Within how rare these particular saxophones are its worth noting just how pretty and incredible condition this horn is compared to how these would most common pop up.
Typically you only find C Melody saxophones in bare brass, gold laq, relaq or silver plate. Only on extremely rare occasions will see gold plated C melodies pop up however those are just the standard basic engraved gold plates horns. Then once in a very rare blue moon you will see a deluxe portrait engraved gold plated C melody come to market. Then one level even rarer is the occurrence of a pearled gold plated Virtuoso Deluxe like this. Within these Virtuoso gold plated horns majority of times when they pop up they just aren't this nice of condition, the gold plate might be fully matte with bare brass spots poking out, or gold plate flaking off, alot of times these horns are missing necks or in complete disarray needing full overhaul. Thats not the case with this saxophone.
This particular horn has a bright and shiny finish extremely gold in the hands with a gold nugget color hue. Everything said this horn is sitting a very nice buying position right now. If you have ever thought about purchasing a top end C Melody to perform, record or collect this would be a prime option.
