For sale is a Selmer Super Balanced Action baritone saxophone!
This horn is a prime era Selmer SBA serial #49xxx with its matching serial #49xxx neck!
This saxophone is one of the extremely rare early low A baritones.
There were only ever 180x total low A Selmer Super Balanced Actions ever produced.
Specifically this is the earlier 2 piece bell variant that there were only 50x total ever produced out of the 180x total. 1 of 50 is just incredibly rare!
This saxophone is going to need a full overhaul and pad job to be any kind of functional saxophone.
This horn is sold as not working and has its fair share of strong red/green metal wear, heavy patina, scratches, dings, dents, fleabites, repair marks, weld marks and other anomalies associated with such a poor condition vintage horn.
No case is included.
At one point the saxophone appears to have been spray painted with some kind of gold spray paint.
Originally we listed this saxophone in completely untouched condition.
The saxophone has now had a majority of that gold spray paint removed.
We wanted to know what was under neither the paint, and how easy it would come off.
Turns out with simple acetone on a rag the gold paint comes right off !
Its like night and day difference. The spray paint gets removed to show beautiful Selmer engravings and logos.
This horn still needs full restoration, and there is plenty of paint left still needing to be removed, however this gives the next buyer an exact idea what the horn will look like.
We have left up the prior pictures of exactly how the horn started fully gold paint as well now the after pictures of exactly what you will be receiving. Its quite an improvement!
This saxophone includes its factory matching serial number neck! The neck has no pickups, or patches. Baritone necks have a way of getting lost, destroyed or damaged, so to have the confirmed matching serial number neck is just fantastic.
A horn like this is a truly rare occurrence to come to market. With only 50 ever made you just have to assume the vast majority are fully destroyed or locked up into life time collections.
