This is the first generation first production MC Gregory mouthpiece the Model A which is more desirable.
This mouthpiece is a #18 on the right side, that means this is a medium chamber piece! Just like a Meyer Bros New York vintage piece medium is always the most desireable. 16 = small chamber 18 = medium chamber 20 = large chamber.
When it comes to alto sax the medium chamber is most sought after which really makes this a nice piece paired with the fact its such an early serial number!
These mouthpieces were only made from 1936 to 1947 and were the first generation of what became a long legacy of mouthpieces. While there are some other MC Gregory models that are more obtainable an early Model A 4A 18 Paul Desmond model is just a white whale of mythical proportions!
This mouthpiece is being sold as used and has its fair share of scratches, knicks, dings, fleabites, patina, wear and tear and other anomalies associated with such an old used mouthpiece!
