This horn is a very nice playing piece! There are no clicks, or clanks, and everything is setup sealing great right now. The playing experience is rather enjoyable!
This horn is being sold as used and has its fair share of scratches, knicks, dings, fleabites, heavy patina, metal wear of various colors, weld marks, repair marks and other anomalies associated with such an old antique.
The exact history and condition of the lacquer is unknown. Its possible the horn has been relacquerd.
This saxophone has a very nice neck with it that has no patches, pickups, major problems, plugged holes etc. Its a great neck that plays well.
This horn comes with a very nice flight style case on wheels. This is an extremely large case that will do well in shipping. Bass sax cases can be $500 to $2000 so its a nice value to get a case thats not falling apart or trashed.
In comparison the current Selmer Series II bass has a retail price of $43,594 with the lowest possible MAP sell price of $29,859. These series II bass's are MTO made to order pieces only that can take 1+ years to be produced.
Overall the horn is an awesome piece. There's only so many of these out there and they virtually are never really coming to market these days.
Most times these do show up they tend to be later serial number horns. The 92xxx is a highly collectible 5 digit range serial range, which is worth mentioning. Interestingly enough the horn's serial number is around just 200 digits away from Michael Breckers famed Mark VI neck serial #92,203.
The vast majority of these horns show up in total trashed condition missing necks, missing parts etc. These horns were used for marching bands by high school and college players whose last worry was keeping the condition. All things considered this is a very nice package with a fully together playing nice sax with a nice case!
